Sybex - Cisco Certified Network Associate Study Guide — by Todd Lammle. Should be on the 5th edition. Great for learning subnetting. Missing some info, but there are one or two new update chapters available for download.

Cisco Press - The CCNA 640-802 books by Wendell Odom. Probably the CCNA Official Exam Certification Library.

You can check out all the Cisco Press Books (and the link to the simulator) at the Cisco Press Web site.
Hands-on practice is important…. but you can get by with the simulator for the CCNA.

A: The CCNA 640-802 exam is $125.
There is also the 2 exam option (INTRO and ICND). There should be link at the CCNP Prep Center that explains it. I think those are $100 each.

I. About CCNP certification:
CCNP - Cisco Certified Network Professional is an advanced level Cisco certification. A CCNP certified professional is proficient and have working or advanced knowledge with TCP/IP, IPX, and AppleTalk network environments. The routing protocols covered under CCNP include RIP v1, RIP v2, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP (both iBGP and eBGP), AppleTalk, and IPX routing. CCNP certified professionals can work with complex (100 - 500 nodes) LAN/WAN technologies including Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, X.25, Frame Relay, and ATM.

II. Pre-requisites for appearing for CCNP certification:
A candidate aspiring to become a CCNP need to pass CCNA - Cisco Certified Network Associate exam as this is a pre-requisite for obtaining CCNP.

III. Validity of CCNP certification:
CCNP certification is valid for a period of 3 years. A CCNP certified candidate is required to re-certify within a period of 3 years. The certification validity is renewed automatically if 1. By upgrading the certification level (say by obtaining CCIE) or 2. By getting re-certified. A CCNP candidate is recertified by passing the 642-891 Composite (old: “640-851 CCNP Recertification”) exam. Also, re-certifying at CCNP level automatically renews CCNA certification validity also.

I will be appearing for my voucher exam and then my CCNA paper. What are the topics that I should be concentrating on. This is an urgent matter and any help will be greatly appreciated. Rainofkayos: For the ccna u should know ip addressing very good, u should be able to break them down no calculator no internet, subnetting, u should know routing protocols interior for the most part, u should know the cisco cli,, solving common issues using commands, access control lists and there syntax, and u should be able to maneuver in a lab environment where u are put in situations, should know ur layer 2 stuff switching and what have u,, should know about (just about not verbose just be aware of) various protocols and their usages, ATM, PPP, Frame Relay, DSL, Cable Modem, Dial up Modem, should know ofcourse the routers internals nvram, flash, rom, registers, basic router configs etc, =) good luck!
